Reverse Snowflakes

I like to have something for my early finishers to do in art class. How involved the activity will be depends on if the early finishers get done just a few minutes early, or a whole class period early. Sometimes, the students just get drawing paper and crayons or markers. But, as Christmas is approaching, I decided that my 5th and 6th grade students (and probably 4th in a week or two) would make reverse snowflake cards, which could be used as Christmas cards.

The cards are made with a 6" x 12" colored paper folded in half, and a 5" x 5" square of white copy paper (thinner paper is easier to fold and cut!). The students seemed to enjoy it, and got some nice results. The nice thing about using ordinary copy paper for the white part of the cards is that  the students could make as many reverse snowflakes as they wanted, and only use the good ones, without wasting art supplies.
